Drecynn's New Blanket

Ok so I was surfing Youtube for some how to videos on different ways to do quilting. So far all I've really done are simple blankets. I want to learn to actually quilt. This one channel I found is AMAZING! I learned this really fast, quilt as you go way to make a baby quilt. My total time making this was almost 5 hours. It was 5 because I kept being interrupted by Mini Me.

Wish I had taken some pictures of before and during, but if you go to this website, Missouri Star Quilt Co. you can find the video tutorials. They really are very easy to follow and understand.

This is a quick picture of what it looked like as I was sewing. Sooo easy and simple to do.

This is my psychotic cat, Cayenne. She lays on EVERYTHING I make. Doesn't matter that she has her own special spot, or that I made her a funky pillow to use. She has to sleep on whatever I am making at the moment. Well, that is, she sleeps after having run around the house like a nut job.

Here is Shayla modeling for me. She said it looks like a jungle. That's good since that is what I was aiming for.

This is just a closer view. I forgot myself tho, and kept right on sewing and made it a bit longer than I originally wanted. Figure they can use it for a play mat if they want to.

I can't give enough praise to the Missouri Star Quilt Co. The video's are so easy to follow and understand. One day I'll take Shayla with me on a road trip south and go check out the store in person.

Shayla's Peace Shorts

So I was trying my hand at some free-style embroidery and sewed this peace sign onto some fabric. Then I got this wacky idea. Put it on a pair of shorts for Mini Me!

I started out with this:

Grabbed my cutting board, rotary cutter, and made a hole on the back side. I would have done this on the front but the pockets were in the way. And Shayla liked the idea of a peace sign on her butt.

I love that miniature cutting board I have. Really useful at odd times. I sliced back and forth with the rotary to make it easy to get a hole going. Once the hole was the size I wanted I slipped in the fabric, lined up the peace sign, and pinned in place.
Shayla picked the stitch she wanted for it and sat in my lap and we carefully sewed around the hole. I made sure to sew far enough away from the edge of the hole so I could cut tiny fringes along the hole. This way it'll look cuter when we wash it and it starts to fray.
Vwahla! Peace Shorts!

Kaina's Blanket

This is for my friend's daughter, Kiana. Yes, that is DW in the background. Mini Me has an addiction to watching Arthur on television.

Kelly's Blanket

This is a blanket I made for my friend, Kelly. When I make something for someone I'm more concerned that they will like it. I mean, I like to give what the person wants/likes.

This is the backing I picked. A nice flannel to help hold in warmth, and a cute shade of pink to match the pink on the front.

This is the top of the blanket. After a lot of picture texting she picked out the fabric she wanted. I'm happy she likes the pattern.

The Bohemoth Blanket

After months of waiting, hubby finally has his blanket. This thing is HUGE! To get it layered correctly I had to lay it out on the floor in the living room, and even then it was tricky since our living room is small. It got done tho, then I had to do the binding. Shayla (my Mini Me) picked out the color for the binding, and in order to get the blanket situated right so I could sew the binding on, I had to use the ironing board next to my desk. Since my computer tower is on the left side of the desk it ended up holding part of the blanket as well while I sewed.

Finally tho, it is done! Maybe one day I'll start showing off and doing tutorials of my own. For now I will simply just show off what I make.
